As Republicans headed to a closed-door meeting to discuss Brett Kavanaugh’s fate, President Donald Trump made clear he is standing by his Supreme Court nominee.

“Judge Kavanaugh showed America exactly why I nominated him,” Trump tweeted. “His testimony was powerful, honest, and riveting. Democrats’ search and destroy strategy is disgraceful and this process has been a total sham and effort to delay, obstruct, and resist.”

Trump then sent a message to GOP Senate and Judiciary Committee leaders, writing: “The Senate must vote!”

As Senate Republicans headed to a conference meeting to discuss the nomination, Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn, R-Texas, told reporters the plan is for the Judiciary Committee to hold a business meeting on Friday to vote on the nomination.
