White House Chief of Staff John Kelly met with a group of African-American Republican officials Monday and urged them to press any qualified candidates to inquire about White House positions.

The intention was not solely to attract African-Americans to the Trump White House in the wake of Omarosa Manigault-Newman’s departure, Kelly said, adding he wants talented individuals from all backgrounds to join his team.

His comments came during an otherwise off-the-record session with a small group of reporters.
