Reps. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, and Mark Pocan, D-Wisconsin, kneeled on the House floor in recent days in solidarity with NFL players. Some players had been kneeling during the national anthem — a protest about racism and police brutality — dating back to last season. The act was thrust into the headlines this weekend when President Donald Trump criticized the protest and the NFL in a series of tweets.
