Elway Shoots down Run for Office in Colorado
Speculation about former QB, current GM to run for governor as a Republican
Former Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway says he’s not running for governor or any other office in Colorado in 2018.
“I’m not running for governor,” he told KUSA-TV. “For some reason these things continue to come up.”
Elway, who is in his seventh year as the Broncos’ general manager, has long been a Republican, endorsing Mitt Romney in 2012 in the month before the presidential election. In 2016, he donated $2,700 to Donald Trump and $1,000 to Rep. Mike Coffman, R-Colo.
“I am a little bit involved at times with the Republican Party which I believe in and I feel like that’s my part,’’ Elway told KUSA. “It’s not something that … the Senate seat opens up my name seems to pop up for that every time, too. But no, I’m working for the Denver Broncos.’’
Colorado’s incumbent Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper is term-limited.
