Nearly $30 million has been spent so far by Indiana Senate candidates Rep. Todd Young and former Sen. Evan Bayh and outside groups supporting the two.

The campaign fund for Bayh, a Democrat and former senator running for his old seat, outspent Young by $4 million. However, when outside groups are accounted for, Young’s side has spent about $3 million more, The Indianapolis Star reported.

Each side has received help from partisan heavyweights. Former President George W. Bush raised funds for Young in Elkhart and Indianapolis last month, while New York Sen. Charles E. Schumer, who is likely to be the next majority leader if Democrats win control of the Senate, transferred $500,000 to a Bayh committee that helps state Democrats increase voter turnout.

The Rothenberg & Gonzales Political Report/Roll Call recently changed its rating of the race from Tilts Democrat to Tossup.
