The day after the National Republican Senatorial Committee canceled more than $1.1 million in independent expenditure advertising for the Wisconsin Senate race, the NRSC is launching its first coordinated ad for Sen. Ron Johnson.

The ad, titled “Busted,” goes after Johnson’s Democratic challenger, former Sen. Russ Feingold, for “saying one thing and doing another,” campaign spokesman Brian Reisinger said in a statement.

The ad is paid for with NRSC coordinated funds, otherwise known as 441 money that the committee can spend on behalf of the Johnson campaign. It’s a six-figure investment, the specifics of which the campaign and the committee would not disclose. The NRSC can spend up to $860,000 in coordinated expenditures in the state.

The Rothenberg & Gonzales Political Report/Roll Call rates the contest Leans Democratic. Feingold holds a nearly 10-point lead in the latest RealClearPolitics average of recent polls.
