World War II Female Pilot Finally Gets Arlington Funeral

Women Airforce Service Pilots were honored once again after a hiatus, a 20-week legislative process and a bill on the president’s desk in May. Elaine Danforth Harmon, who died in April, was finally buried in Arlington National Cemetery on Wednesday. Arizona Republican Rep. Martha McSally – a former fighter pilot – introduced a bill in January to quality Women Air Service Pilots in World War II, also known as WASPs, for military burial honors. Since 2002, WASPs were eligible to have their ashes placed at Arlington, but last year, the Army revoked these rights. Read the full story here.
