Rep. Mark Takano, D-Calif., said Tuesday he was “taken aback” when certain pieces of President Barack Obama’s State of the Union Address were not received with greater applause. Following Obama’s comments calling for “respect for all people,” for which only “a smattering of Republicans” applauded, Takano said he yelled to Speaker Paul D. Ryan to stand up, but his voice was drowned out by the applause “on [the Democrats’] side.”
